The day we went to the caverns the temperature was in the low fifties and pleasant, who would have known that it would snow in a couple days and go down to ten degrees.
On our way to Carlsbad Caverns we stopped at a view point of this mountain, El Capitan, elevation 8085.

As you can tell by my hair, it was a little windy there. Zoey was a little nervous sitting on the rock.

It took about two hours to get to the caverns, on the way I saw a road runner along side the road, it was pretty
Dad said he did this so Zoey would, but I think he really liked being a ranger!!

Going down the elevator, it is 764 feet down to the caverns. Zoey was a little nervous watching the rock wall go by as we went down.
There is a gift shop and a snack bar down inside the caverns.
And, restrooms.
Zoey thought it was dark, but she wasn't afraid.
If you look at the bottom of the lighted wall you can see some people.

It is hard to tell just how huge these caverns are. One sign said you could fit a 747 jet in one room. Another said the caverns are as long as 14 football fields put together. We took the self guided tour and spent 1 1/2 hours walking around down there.
This formation is called the "Lion's tail", later when we got home Zoey was talking to her grandma Julie on the phone. She asked how Zoey liked the caves, she said "they were dark, but I saw a lion's tail" Isn't that funny she remembered it!
This is a huge column, way taller than our house.

Brian had to do time exposure on the pics because there was so little light, in this one you can see my ghost walking down the trail.
I liked these little stalatites, it kind of looks like tree roots.
Katsilas family

It is an amazing experience, pictures don't tell the whole story.

Zoey turning in her book to become a junior ranger.

She had to hold her hand up and swear to have fun, laugh and enjoy life, and to take care of her grandparents when they are old and need care. She took the whole thing very seriously.
Having a snack after the cave.
